Meeting need for new school places in Oxford

Meeting need for school places from 2019

The Swan School is a new comprehensive school, which has been granted funding to provide up to 1,260 new school places for 11-18 year olds in Oxford from September 2019.

The Harlow Centre in Marston has been identified as the only suitable location to build The Swan School.

The school will admit 120 Year 7 pupils, in 2019 and 2020, and from 2021, 180 places per year. Oxford has been identified as a location for a new school, because Oxfordshire County Council (as the Local Education Authority) is forecasting a significant shortage of new secondary school places from the year 2019.

New educational facilities for Marston

Galliford Try is working with the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), The River Learning Trust (RLT), Meadowbrook College and St Nicholas' Primary School to prepare a masterplan for the redevelopment of the Harlow Centre, which will enable the The Swan School to be built.

The masterplan also includes a new state-of-the-art building for Meadowbrook College and new outdoor facilities for St Nicholas' Primary School.

In order to deliver the masterplan for the site, a planning application has been submitted to Oxford City Council.

This is an entirely separate process to the Section 10 Consultation being carried out by the River Learning Trust, specific to the operation of The Swan School.

In November 2017, we invited the community to tell us what they thought of our plans.

We have now refined the masterplan to respond to local feedback and submitted the planning application for the redevelopment of Marston's Harlow Centre site to Oxford City Council.

Please visit the What stage are we at? page to find out about the revised plans and send us your comments. To find responses to common issues raised during the November 2017 consultation, visit the Your questions answered page.
