Happy New Year and thank you for your feedback

Thank you to everyone who responded to the proposals to redevelop the Harlow Centre site to provide a new secondary school for Oxford - The Swan School, brand new state-of-the-art facilities for Meadowbrook College and new outdoor play facilities for St Nicholas' Primary School.

Overall, the responses were positive, with the headline messages as follows:

  • 262 people participated in the consultation
  • 66% of all consultation participants support the project
  • 68% support the proposals to create a dedicated new access road to serve The Swan School, as outlined in the plans published for consultation
  • 89% of participants feel that the identified local shortfall of secondary school places needs to be addressed.

Members of the local community and school parents raised a few key issues that they would like to see addressed, mainly relating to access and the inter-relationship between the three school sites.

We are keen to reassure local residents and parents that our aim is, as far as possible, to minimise any additional impact of the proposed new school in the local area. We are therefore reviewing the proposals again to ensure that as many of the issues raised are addressed as comprehensively as possible in the final, proposed plans.

This review is ongoing and will inform the planning application that we submit to Oxford City Council in the coming months.
